A Not Boring Quarantine #1

Harry Potter Party 🌙

For this first post of the series A Not Boring Quarantine, I decided to start with one of our most successful activities: Harry Potter Party. We had so much fun falling into Harry’s Potter world again and I want to share with you what we did to transform this boring quarantine night into a super exciting party. Before we begin, here is one of the most famous quotes of Hermione Granger to put you in the “potter” mood:

“Stop, stop, stop! You’re going to take someone’s eye out. Besides, you’re saying it wrong. It’s leviosa, not leviosar!”

Decorations

To recreate the Hogwarts atmosphere, we lighted up a lot of candles and took out everything related to Harry Potter or the “magic world” that we had, and put it as decoration. We also bought some jelly beans to imitate Bertie Bott’s flavored beans and we put them into glass bowls. We also played the Harry Potter Movie Soundtracks found on Spotify.

Costume

As you will discover later in the post, one of the activities that we did was a Hogwarts Houses Test. According to our result, we dressed up according to the colors of our respective house. Blue for Ravenclaw, yellow for Hufflepuff, green for Slytherin, and burgundy for Gryffindor. We completed with wands, rounded classes, and capes to enhance our look.

Food

As Harry Potter is traditionally from England, comfort food is the best “culinary style” for the dinner. Warm soups, pot pies, scalloped potatoes, casseroles, etc. : anything that warms up the heart and that would be perfect for a rainy night in London. If you have less time, some hot “croque-en-bouche” that we can easily find in a supermarket such as mozzarella sticks, chicken wings are also a comfortable alternative.

Activities

For the first activity, we tried to recreate the famous Butterbeer! To do so, we used the following recipe that I found on Pinterest from the Family, Food + Garden blog. The butter extract can be found at Bulk Barn or other specialized food commerce.

The result was really impressive and the reaction of the foam with the soda creates a “magic” reaction that makes the experience even butter ;).

The second activity we did was to do a Hogwarts House quiz. It is the original test made by J.K. Rowling and it uncovers pretty interesting things about our personality and ambitions. *Note that if you want to do the test more than once, you have to create one account per participant.

Finally, what would be a Harry Potter party without actually watching a Harry Potter movie? My favorite is the fourth one with the Goblet of Fire. Tell me what is your favorite one in the comments!

This is it for the Harry Potter party! I hope you enjoyed it and it inspired you to turn one of your quarantine night into a fun party that you will keep a great memory of it. Also, do not hesitate to share your ideas in the comments and make sure to follow this blog for more of the Not a Boring Quarantine series!

À bientôt!
