5 Random Acts of Kindness to Spark Some Joy✨

You probably have heard the saying: giving is better than receiving. Making someone happy, even if it is only to grasp a little smile is indeed one of the best feelings someone can experience. Thus, I believe that spreading kindness is an important ingredient of the happiness recipe. In this post, I will share with you 5 random acts of kindness to spark some joy in your family, neighborhood, or your city!

Give fresh baked cookies

It can seem a little bit intimidating at first to think about distributing cooking in your neighborhood, but think about how you would feel if you were the one receiving them. You would probably be really happy and think that it is a kind gesture. Maybe you would even start talking with this neighbor that you had never spoken with before.

You can wrap them up in a cute little box or put them on a plate with a sign saying “Free cookies” and offer them to the people you meet.

Offer to an elderly to do their groceries

The elderly are people with a lot of wisdom and the ones we have to thank for the world we live in. They have worked hard all their lives to assure that their kids and grandkids can live happily. So why not give back with a little act of kindness?

Offer to an elderly in your neighborhood or your grandma or grandpa to do their courses. Doing groceries is a normal thing that we do pretty often, but it can be challenging for someone aging. Whether it is because it’s a physical task or because it requires focus, this person can probably use some help. Who knows? Maybe they will thank you with fresh baked cookies;)

Leave kind notes in a park

A few years ago, my sister and I decided to paint on rocks little words of kindness. Then we went to the beach and let them on the sand. I remember seeing a little girl found one of them and the smile on her face. It is not a big thing, but acts of kindness do not need to be complex and sophisticated. What’s important is your intention to spark some joy.

So here is the idea: Write on rocks or papers some quotes related to self-love. Here are some of my favorites:

  • “No one is perfect, that’s why pencils have erasers.” -Wolfgang Riebe
  • “Believe you can and you’re halfway there,” -Theodore Roosevelt
  • “You are enough just as you are” -Meghan Markle
  • “In order to love who you are, you cannot hate the experiences that shaped you.” -Andrea Dykstra
  • “If you are lucky enough to be different, don’t ever change.” -Taylor Swift

Imagine someone is having a bad day and decide to go to the park or the beach and find your message. This small act of kindness will maybe make his/her day better!

Pay for the coffee of the person behind you

Let’s say you are getting a coffee at your favorite coffee shop one morning. Why not make this experience even better for the person behind you by paying for his/her coffee! I suggest a coffee shop because the order is probably less costly than what it would be…at the grocery store ;). However, the effect is the same! Just the thought that someone wanted to pay for his/her coffee is enough to spark some joy in this person’s life and make him/her start the day on the right foot.

Give a basket of goods to someone in need

Create a basket full of essentials goods for a homeless person or someone that you know is having a hard time making ends meet. There are some goods such as deodorant that we consider for granted, but that is not for some people. This basket could therefore make a big difference for those people. Here are a few ideas of what the basket could contain:

  • Deodorant
  • Toothbrush
  • Sanitary products
  • Lip balm
  • Coffee
  • Soap, shampoo
  • A gift card to the supermarket

And why not include a little kind note from #3;)

This is it for my 5 random acts of kindness to spark joy! I hope you enjoyed it and that it makes you want to try one of them. As a final thought, I believe that happiness is not an individual goal but rather something we can work on collectively. I think it is in everybody’s powers to make our world a little bit kinder every day, and this can be done by simple acts, like paying for the coffee of the person behind you in a coffee shop;)

À bientôt!

Juliette
