The Monkey Statue of Heidelberg

As far as I can remember, I have always dreamed of traveling to Germany. I have always been curious about the country, first by its language, which I started learning once a week during lunchtime in high school.

A few years later, as my interest grew, I started thinking about studying there. I remember sitting in the studies advisor’s office, exploring with her the different schools in Germany where I could study hospitality and management.

Life kept going and plans changed. A pandemic hit, I took a break from school , and changed my career path.

The German dream was now on hold…but not less forgotten.

A few years later, as I was studying in my new career field, I saw a flyer for a three-week summer school in Germany. I applied and got accepted.

I had the most amazing three weeks: I got to discover the beauty of Germany, and the lifestyle there and even made some new friends. One evening, I wrote in my journal:

Some day you’re in the studies advisor’s office, dreaming about studying in Germany. Then the next day, you’re on a train in Freiburg, coming back from your new friend’s place that you met at the school you’re taking a course at.

I believe the law of attraction is a powerful tool. I think its magic resides in the fact that your wishes and dreams can be presented to you in ways you might never have imagined. Therefore, one must always remain open to the various ways its magic can unfold.

On this same trip, I also visited the beautiful city of Heidelberg. Right next to the old bridge of the city, there is a statue of a monkey. When I was there, someone told me that if I rubbed its fingers, I would come back to Heidelberg.

This year in Heidelberg !

Nearly a year later, I find myself back in Heidelberg, ready to embark on an exciting teaching internship in a nearby city.

Is it the monkey, the law of attraction, or my dedicated planning that allowed me to fulfill my dream?

I think it’s a mix of all those things.

In order to fulfill a dream, I believe one must ask for it loud and clear, take the necessary steps, and remain open to the form it may take.

And, of course, a touch of magic.

A monkey might be optional, but in my case, I must give it some credit;)

So what’s your dream ?

Let the magic unfold
